King Edward VII High School, Houghton Estate, Johannesburg
The school was established towards the end of 1902 as the Johannesburg High School for Boys, and for a few years was also known as the Johannesburg College. It was one of the six so-called "Milner nurseries" founded by the then Administrator of the Transvaal Colony in the immediate post-war era. The main building was completed in 1910 and with its pleasing proportions and finishes, is a good example of Edwardian architecture. It was declared a National Monument under old NMC legislation on 17 December 1982.
