The stately neo-Cape Dutch house was built to accommodate visiting Governor-Generals and Heads of State. Located on Grant's Hill, the house was designed by William and John Stockwing in 1935. It served as a residence for the Governor General of the Union of South Africa from 1942. In 1947, King George VI, his wife and two daughters used this mansion as their residence during their three-day visit to Bloemfontein. Oliewenhuis became a gallery in 1985.
