The African National Congress (ANC) has noted a public apology made by Comrade Carl Niehaus in which he is asking for forgiveness.

Comrade Carl is highly regarded for the role that he has played in the struggle for the liberation of South Africa. Like all freedom fighters, he has suffered.

The situation in which he finds himself is unfortunate. Due to this, the ANC accepted his resignation and released him from all his duties at Chief Albert Luthuli House, to be able to deal with his personal affairs.

We would not like to be drawn in any speculative discussion on the future of Comrade Carl, outside ANC structures.
