The ANC Women’s League is deeply saddened to hear that Comrade Nokuhamba Nyawo passed away on Monday (5th March 2012). Nyawo was a true cde and a truly inspiring women.

She did not fit into the stereotype often associated with women, but rather took up arms to fight for the freedom of her country with the MK. She was not afraid of a gun and was heavily involved in the bush guerrilla warfare even at the age of 63. She did not use her age or her gender as an excuse to hold her back, but rather she embraced what she had available to her, and helped liberate her country and her people.

She dedicated her life and her family to the ANC and for that we salute her and say thank you. Nokuhamba Nyawo is a true hero who received the National Order of Luthuli in 2009 a tribute bestowed on only the bravest, and most honorable among us.

To the family she leaves behind and her ANC family we send our deepest condolences. She will be missed.
