The first section comprises original or primary material. This material is contained in six volumes of Appendices to this dissertation which are held by Rhodes House Library, University of Oxford, and to which access can be gained on application to the Librarian. Four of these volumes, numbered 1 to 4, contain interviews conducted by the author, which are listed below. The remaining two volumes contain rare or hitherto confidential documents, or interviews conducted by others, which are cited in this dissertation; these are marked Volumes A and B and their contents are also listed below.
