Labour Struggles in South Africa


This is a book about forgotten pages of South Africa's rich worker history from 1903 to 1921. It includes socio-historical analysis of the Cape Town 'answer" to the Bolshevik Party (the Industrial Socialist League). Jewish Trade unionism in the Mother City at the turn of the 20 th century and Uncovers the struggles and tribulations of various sections of the working class against exploitation and poverty.

Dr. Evangelos Mantzaris was born in Lemnos, Greece in 1953. After graduating from Panteios University in Anthens he came to South Africa where he obtained an M. Social Science and PH.D from the sociology Department at the University of Cape Town. He is the Senior Research Officer at the Social Policy Programme, University of Durban-Westville. He has published widely in English, Greek and Yiddish on ethnic and class relations, industrial sociology, family and old age.
