Letter from Workers' Party of South Africa to G. H. Gool, 4 March 1937

To Dr. G. H.
Gool,
1 Stilton Rd,
Wynberg.
4.iii.l937
Dear Comrade,
We talked of the matters affecting the Liberation League at our
meeting yesterday, +I summarise the main points:

We must distinguish between members of the Party and members of
the Club, the former being under stricter obligations than the
latter. As a Party, we boycott the Natives' Representx Act completely.
And we who are members of the Party do not bind ourselves to any
action taken by the Liberation League. We are in no way allied
to the said League.

But we leave you a clear field in the League, hoping that you
will work within it for the Fourth International. We shall not
write for the League organ, and if a comrade who is one of our
members takes part in a Liberation League election League, or the
like, it will be to put forward the Party point of view, not the
League point of view. But we do not bind you to observe strictly
the Party principles. This was unanimously agreed.

We think a leaflet for this time of nomination [-] election would
be useful, and are arranging for the preparation of one in Xhosa
+ one in English. These will, ofcourse, set forth our own standpoint.
