The limitations of Marx's thought
The limitations of Marx's thought
Karl Marx died in 1883. He had never seen electricity; a mass-produced car, an aeroplane, radio, TV or pc. It is no surprise that his writings leave out analysis of large areas which are important to us today.
Let us simply list a few issues Marx did not touch upon:
1) He wrote little about capitalism's ability to reform itself; to sometimes provide reasonable wages to workers and thus reduce their drive towards revolution.
2) He wrote nothing on the nature of the socialist state, how it would be ordered or indeed how the workers would own the means of production.
3) He never speculated on whether socialism could be established in one country and not spread to others.
4) He gave no timetable for how long capitalism could last.
5) He never wrote on the nature of the classless society or how it would be reached after revolution.
