Marx and industrial England

Marx lived in the best-developed industrial country of his time - England. He said that a capitalist country was ordered in a certain way. Workers produced goods in factories for a wage. These goods were then sold by the owners of the factories for more than the total cost of the wages paid, the cost of materials and the cost of building the factory itself. This ?extra money created' (or as Marx called it, ? surplus value') that factory owners take from the goods produced by workers, is known as ?profit'. Goods are sold on the ?market'.

The market is not primarily a place but an idea. Goods are priced according to the supply (the number produced) and the demand (how many people want the goods at that price).
