Annesu de Vos was born in Johannesburg on the 5 August 1964. She is well-known as the youngest published poet in South African literature history. When she was 16, her first book was published by Tafelberg Publishers in Cape Town. Two years later her second book was published. In recognition of her poetry debut, De Vos obtained the Eugene Marais prize, a prestigious literary award from the South African Academy for Science and Art. Since then widely anthologized selections from her published works have been on prescribed reading lists in the curriculum at grade school and university levels in South Africa for three decades.
