Mining magnate and African National Congress member Brett Kebble was ambushed in Melrose, Johannesburg, at around 21:00 on his way to a dinner engagement. Andile Nkuhlu, Kebble's business partner and member of the ANC Youth League, who was expecting Kebble at dinner, said that Kebble was the victim of a callous, premeditated crime. His car and body were found on a bridge crossing the M1 to Pretoria. The following day police said that they were looking at the possibility that Kebble, a controversial figure, was assassinated. Investigations into his death are still underway.
