In spite of being refused to visit, the thirteen delegates of the Congress of South African Trade Union (COSATU), left for Zimbabwe with the intent of meeting Zimbabwe's Congress of Trade Union (ZCTU), civil society groups and getting first hand information regarding the political situation in Zimbabwe prior to parliamentary elections. Upon their arrival at the Airport, they were subjected to a two hour-long interrogation by government authorities. They were put on a bus by Zimbabwean police and deported to the Beitbridge border post and left there.
