Israel and Egypt, under the leadership of Anwar al Sadat, re-establish diplomatic relations. The move is resented by other Arab nations. Egypt's military forces, the fifth largest in Africa, is one of the best in the region. The new diplomatic relationship with Israel meant that Arab aggression against the state of Israel would now lack a strong military backing.
