The ANC strongly denies Holomisa's charge of accepting payments from Sol Kerzner. In May 1996, Bantu Holomisa, former ruler of Transkei and Deputy Minister of Environmental Affairs, claimed that President Nelson Mandela had told him that Sol Kerzner, previously head of Sun International, had donated two million rand to the African National Congress (ANC) before the 1994 elections. Holomisa claimed this was an attempt by Kerzner to have bribery charges against him dropped. Mandela later shocked supporters by confirming that Kerzner had made huge secret donations to the ANC. No one knew about it except him. Click here to read an online article by Patrick Bond "Gambling with Mandela's Reputation" wherein the corruption scandals are outline.
