Huguenot Church is consecrated

Date: 28 April, 1805

The Huguenot Church, also known as the 'Strooidakkerk' (thatched roof church), was consecrated in Paarl. This is the oldest church building, apart from one in Cape Town, that is still used for devotions. The church was named after the French Huguenots (French refugees) who came to South Africa in 1688 after dissenting from the Roman Catholic Church around 1550 and the subsequent persecution in France.
