The Inaugural Women’s Legacy Dialogue took place on 13 August 2010 in the Sandton Sun Hotel, Johannesburg. The event was in context with Women’s month. The event consisted of women leaders from government, the corporate sector and civil society. Wendy Luhabe, social entrepreneur, chair, director of various companies and author, and Lynette Finlay, CEO of Finlay & Associates and founding director of Nurturing Orphans of Aids for Humanity (NOAH) were the dialogue convenors at the event.  The primary objective of the meeting was to discuss the issues and challenges that faced women in the country and find possible resolutions and bring about social change. The dialogues covered topics such as; women’s role in education, job empowerment and creation, reducing violence, models for growing the economy and redistribution of income and the role of women leaders. An estimated 250 women leaders attended the gathering. Notably former deputy president of the country Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga, Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane, deputy CEO of the JSE Nicky Newton-King and CEO of Airports Company South Africa Monhla Hlahla among many others. It was highlighted that quality education plays a fundamental role in transforming society and the need to uphold the legacy of women’s day.
