After the United Nations General-Assembly resolution 55/282 of 2001, beginning 2002, 21 September of each year is observed as the International Day of Peace Vigil. 21 September 2004 was observed as the third International Day of Peace. The UN resolution called on all UN member states, regional and non-governmental organisations and individuals to commemorate this day appropriately through education and public awareness campaigns. It also called for cooperation with the UN in establishing global ceasefire.
