Janet Soga is born

Date: 18 March, 1827

Janet Soga (neé Burnside) was born in Hutchesontown, Glasgow, Scotland. She married Tiyo Yoga, the first Black man to be ordained to the Christian ministry, in February, 1857. They sailed for South Africa on 18 April of that year, accompanied by Revd Robert Johnston and his wife, on board the 'Lady of the Lake,' arriving in Port Elizabeth on 3 July of that year.
