Even though none of the Khoisan languages form part of the eleven official languages of South Africa, they are still highly regarded. The government set up the Khoi and San National Language Board in 1999, to ensure that these languages are promoted and developed.   Over the years some of these ancient languages, like the Xirigowap and !Goragowap, have become extinct. However, some, like the !XÁ», Ju|’hoansi and !Kung greatly influenced by Portuguese and Afrikaans languages, are still spoken and widely used.
