President Nelson Mandela confirms the historic appointment of the first Black Supreme Court Judge in South Africa. Ismail Mahomed was interviewed for the post by Judicial Service Commission (JSC), which makes its recommendation to the President. However, before JSC could make its recommendation to the President, Mandela side stepped the standard protocol by announcing that Ismail Mahomed was his preferred candidate.
