Date: 9 September, 1868

Mzilikazi, meaning "Great Road" (68), founder and first King of the Amandebele Kingdom, died in Bulawayo, the then capital of the Ndebele Kingdom. Mzilikazi became well-known as military leader throughout southern Africa during the Matabele wars.
