Ben Okri is a Nigerian author born in Minna, Western Nigeria. He received critical acclaim after the publishing of his first novel Flowers and Shadows. His novels are usually fantastic stories with a strong allegiance to Yoruba folklore, New Ageism,spiritual realism, magical realism, visionary materialism, and existentialism. His third novel, The Famished Road, was published in 1991 and announced as the winner of the Booker Prize on 22 October 1991. The book addresses the co-existence of the spiritual and material worlds through the life of a spirit child living in an unnamed Nigerian City.
