Date: 5 April, 1959

The formation of the Pan African Congress (PAC) came as a result of indifferences within the ranks of the African National Congress. Those who were opposed to the ANC's peaceful campaign against white rule in South Africa broke away to form the PAC in 1959. During the party's first meeting in Soweto, Robert Sobukwe was elected President.
