South African President Thabo Mbeki congratulated his US counterpart, President George W. Bush on his election for a second term as president of the United States, and called for greater world peace. "The government and people of South Africa, in wishing him well, will fervently hope for greater world stability and peace under his leadership," Mbeki said. Mbeki also congratulated Bush's challenger, Senator John Kerry.
