Mizream Maseko (also Mizraim, Mizriam, Mizram), South African artist, was born on this date. He completed his schooling in the Transvaal. He began his career as a house painter and was inspired to paint by the works he saw in the houses. Maseko gave up house painting and began painting designs and pictures on scarves in a small shop. He was discovered by John Mohl, who taught him basic principles and techniques of painting. A book by Groenewald interested him in leather painting techniques. A selection of his work was included in a calendar in 1972. He exhibited frequently with Artists under the Sun. Maseko was a deacon of the Zion Christian Church (ZCC).
