The Springbok rugby team, nicknamed Amabokoboko, national team of South Africa under mentorship of Nick Mallett, registered an important victory over the Australian team. The Amabokoboko beat their Wallaby opponents 29 - 15 in the Tri-Nations game played at Ellis Park stadium, Johannesburg. The win was South Africa's 14th consecutive victory and their 13th under Mallett. This envisaged the possibility to break the world record for consecutive victories on their end-of-year tour to the United Kingdom, a record which they, however, only equaled. The record was then held by New Zealand's All Blacks with 17 consecutive wins from 1965 to 1970.
