Following the unanimous adoption of resolution 765 by the UN Security Council, Cyrus Vance was dispatched to South Africa as Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Boutros Boutros-Ghali. During his visit, Vance held deliberations with a broad array of political, religious, business and labour leaders in an effort to bring an end to political violence and also to create an environment conducive for the continuation of negotiations.
