Winnie Mandela's claims are dismissed

Date: 20 March, 1996

A hearing to decide the financial settlement between President Nelson Mandela and Winnie Madikizela-Mandela was held in the Rand Supreme Court, at which the President testified. Madikizela-Mandela's claim for half of her husband's estate, royalties from his best selling autobiography, and presidential salary was dismissed. Because of her absence from court, Madikizela-Mandela was ordered to pay the costs of the hearing. The President subsequently offered an unspecified out-of-court settlement.
