A documentary history of South African Indians

Since their arrival in South Africa, Indians have played an important and active role in their political environment. This can be seen in the birth and activities of the Transvaal Indian Congress, the Natal Indian Congress and the South African Indian Congress. As non-white, indentured labour they were subjected to anti-Indian legislation and discrimination, but, as can be seen in today’s political environment, they have cemented their place in our developing democracy.
