Life : Between 1953 and 1956 she was treasurer of the Durban branch of the South African Congress of Democrats and in 1955 she was a member of the Secretariat of the Joint Executive of the South African Indian Congress, the African National Congress and the South African Congress of Democrats. In 1955 she was also the Durban correspondent of The Guardian. She was arrested and charged
with treason in 1956. She was married to Rowley Israel Arenstein, a prominent
Durban attorney, and member of the South African Communist Party and a
leader of the Congress of Democrats. In 1983 she became legal adviser to Chief Gatsha Buthelezi. The Arensteins have two children and live in Durban. (help update?) |
