Jan Hendrik Hofmeyr Hoogendyk

Born 1911 of a strict 'Dopper' home Hoogendyk was an accountant. He enlisted with the South African Forces in 1942 and was active in Springbok Legion. During the 1950s he was also an active member of the South African Congress of Democrats and became secretary of the Natal Branch in 1954.

Hoogendyk died one day after the release of Nelson Mandela in February 1990.
