De Villiers was an educator and author. She was an editor of the Dictionary of the Afrikaans language, the first and only female principal of the Huguenot University College in Wellington and a lecturer at the Pretoria Technical College and the University of Pretoria. De Villiers visited various countries as a South African delegate and did postdoctoral studies overseas. She always felt that the intellectual and moral levels of a country was largely determined by its women. She died in 1979.
