Associate Professor Landau is an historian of culture and politics in southern Africa.

Associate Professor Landau took part in the "One Hundred Years of the ANC - Debating Liberation Histories and Democracy Today" conference organised by South African History Online, University of the Witswatersrand, The History Workshop, University of Johannesburg and the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation in 2011. He presented the paper The ANC, MK, and  - The Turn to Violence (1960-2).

Associate Professor Landau is the author of the publication Popular Politics in the History of South Africa, 1400–1948. The Africa Edition (available in South Africa) is a paperback edition: ISBN 978-0-521-17926-3.
