This topic deals with the migration of the  African iron age farmers to southern Africa about 2000 years ago. We have provided a  brief summary on what is farming, which can be used as an introduction to the lesson. The section on  who the farmers were and where they came from can also be used as a introduction as this does not form part of the new CAPS curriculum 2011. We learn about their daily lives, social structure and how they interacted with the groups that were present in Southern Africa at that time.
