At a regional peace summit initiated by Church leaders and held in Durban, Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini urged his followers to stop killing each other. This followed various efforts to negotiate an end to the violence between local warring factions of the African National Congress (ANC) and the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) in the KwaZulu-Natal Province.
