Clarence Lucky Payi was hanged on 9 September 1986, along with Sipho Xulu and Andrew Zondo at Pretoria Central Prison. In 1984, Payi and Xulu, acted on the orders of a rogue MK commander, assassinated ANC underground operative Ben Langa (the brother of Pius Langa) on false allegations that he was a police informer.
