Mukhuba\'s stay in Sophiatown lasted until 1958. He returned to Tshakuma where he started producing wooden sculptures and household utensils, including tourist trade objects. He quickly established himself as a gifted wooden sculpture. His methods were learnt from the Vha-Venda wood sculptures. He worked primarily with Marula and Jacaranda wood, producing sculptures of celebrities, sports personalities, and dancing figures. Some of his work has the reputation of being humorous and ironical. For example, his Sammy Davis Junior placed on a radio achieved critical acclaim after the Tributaries Exhibition in 1985.
