Dr Richard Turner was a leading academic, philosopher, anti-apartheid activist and author of the seminal book “Eye of the Needle”. In 1994 he was banned by the apartheid government. On the night of the 8th of January 1978, he was shot by unknown agents of the apartheid secret police and died in the arms of his two young daughters. He was 36 years of age. In the 1974 edition of this book, his name does not appear as the author because his banning order forbade him to publish, teach or enter any educational institution or printing company.
