In 1976, a year after passing matric (now Grade 10), Kevin Curren accepted a scholarship from the University of Texas, United States of America. He obtained a BCom degree in sports management at the university and also began his tennis career. During the 14 years of his tennis career, Curren had won four Grand Slam doubles titles, and reached the Wimbledon finals twice. Curren lived in the United States for 20 years. In 1995 he returned to South Africa and became a commentator for the SABC and later worked for Tennis South Africa. He has also worked closely with the Minister of Sport. He currently lives in Durban with his wife, with whom he has two daughters.
