Shaka Zulu, Zulu chief and founder of the Zulu empire, was murdered by his bodyguard, Mbopha, and his two half-brothers Dingane and Mhlangana after a relatively brief period as king of the Zulu people, from 1816. His death came a year after his mother's death.
