6 February 2000
The South Africa senior national football team, Bafana Bafana, secured 1-0 victory over Ghana, a co-host of the 2000 Africa Cup of Nations contest at Kumasi stadium in Ghana. The victory against Ghana earned South Africa a semifinal spot. The solitary goal of the game was scored by the South African striker Siyabonga Nomvete during the forty-second minute of the first half. The game was not drama free, as Bafana Bafana was reduced to ten-men after midfielder Eric Tinkler was shown his second yellow card for a trip on Kwame Ayew, three minutes into the second half. In spite of their depleted number, Bafana Bafana managed to clutch onto this lead until the final whistle blew. The South African team was guided by coach Trott Moloto.
