The Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) celebrated its 18th anniversary by becoming the first trade union in the world to sponsor a CD. The recording of Solidarity Forever was made during Cosatu's 8th national congress and features both the musicians and delegates. Cosatu was formed in 1985 after unity talks to create a non-racial and non-sexiest labour union in South Africa. The anniversary coincided with the 1973 strikes anniversary.
