Dr Louis Luyt , SA entrepreneur and self-made millionaire, former president of the SA Rugby Football Union and politician, was born in Britstown, Cape Province. He ventured into politics after he was axed as president of SARFU in May 1998. Luyt founded the Federal Alliance Party (FA) in 1998, which he personally bankrolled. The FA took part in the1999 election and Luyt was elected to Parliament. He served as a Member of Parliament for two years and was a member of the Judicial Services Commission as well as a permanent member of Scopa, Finance and Justice.
