Felix Mounie was the leader of the political movement Union du Peuple Camerounnais (UPC). The UPC was a major political force demanding the end of UN Trusteeship over Cameroon and full independence of the country. Mounie was poisoned by a reserve officer of the French Intelligence Agency, William Bechtel. He was a qualified doctor and had been under the government’s watch for years. In 1991, the parliament of Cameroon declared Felix Mounie a National Hero.
