Former Springbok captain Bobby Skinstad is born

Robert Brian (Bobby) Skinstad, the youngest ever Springbok rugby captain, was born in Bulawayo, Rhodesia (Zimbabwe). Skinstad captained the Springboks in twelve tests. After a semi-retirement from South African Rugby in 2004, Skinstad returned in 2007, following a lengthy stay in England where he was a regular player for the Barbarians.
