12 March 1990
The African National Congress (ANC) deputy president, Nelson Mandela, proceeded with his international tour to Sweden. His tour had hitherto included African countries such as Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Zambia and Tanzania. In Sweden Mandela had an opportunity to reunite for the first time after 28 years with his comrade and former partner in a law firm, Oliver Tambo, who at that time was recuperating from a stroke.
