Ngoako Ramathlodi, former premier of the Northern Transvaal Province (now Limpopo) and current Africa National Congress (ANC) National Executive Committee member, was born in Tauyatswala, a small village near Pietersburg (now Polokwane). In 1980, six months after he was denied admission to proceed with his law studies at the University of the North, Ramathlodi left the country for Lesotho. After the ANC 1994 election victory, he was appointed first premier of Northern Transvaal Province.
