As result of the National Party's withdrawal, President Nelson Mandela carried out a Cabinet reshuffle, replacing all the NP ministers with African National Congress (ANC) appointees. The Ministry of General Services was abolished and the Ministries of Agriculture and Land Affairs were amalgamated. The changes were effective from 1 July 1996.
