22 April 1901
The British Secretary for War, St. John Broderick, told the House of Commons that every effort was made to improve conditions in concentration camps in South Africa. The camps were set up during one of the toughest and bleakest phases in the history of South Africa.  The country was experiencing yet another war, the Second South African War also known as the Second Anglo-Boer War, 1899-1902.
