The United States Ambassador to the United Nations, Andrew Young, paid a two day visit to South Africa at the invitation of mining magnate Harry Oppenheimer. On his visit, Young met Soweto student leaders, Black and White community leaders and newspaper editors. He also addressed a business dinner. Young maintained that economic pressure could bring about radical changes in South Africa.
